Oh writing, what are you doing to me?! I’m sorry guys, this story just caught me off guard, and demanded to be written down and published. Now! A stubborn little one. It’s a short stand-alone Sci-fi flash fiction. Maybe I should expand it into a proper story someday…
“Do you know how I’d like to die?” He asked with a stare that could burn holes in her suit.
“I have a few ideas,” her smile was more than inviting. All the lights in the station blinked red, wires catching fire, lightbulbs exploding, sparks flying.
They didn’t make it on time. They didn’t detonate the bomb secretly planted into the core of their artificial planet, a mechanical sphere, set to die by its creator.
The reckless creator had decided it was an obsolete piece of trash. Progress demanded destruction. His indifferent finger pressed the red button on some distant planet, setting the timer of the bomb.
The last two scientists still operating on this tech wonder were never warned.
They had been assigned to the artificial sphere a year ago. A year of forced cooperation, pride and misunderstandings, secret longing, and duty.
There was no way of getting away from the obsolete station. Their signal was shut off. No one would come to their rescue.
After their last effort to save themselves had failed, there was no point in pretending anymore.
“How much time do we have?” He asked, taking off his space suit hurriedly.
“Five minutes,” she looked up at the monitor.
“That’s about enough,” he grinned.
“I knew you’re not much of a romantic.”
“Oh, I am! A fast-kinda-romantic.”
“Oh well, no time for any foreplay, I guess,” she sighed, dropping her suit to the floor.
“We had a whole year of foreplay,” he said grabbing her thighs, and pushing her against the cold metal wall. She laughed; they merged in a kiss. When their bodies connected, and their mutual core exploded in the heavenly colours of pleasure, so did the core of the artificial planet. Their lips ripped into tiny particles of flesh, mixing with metal, glass, concrete, plastic; everything that had sustained their life, now brought them death. Their kiss exploded into microscopic fractions of pleasure and pain, until there was nothing left but stardust.
Thank you for reading!
Wow! that death was gorgeous!😄
Instant planetary destruction used to be over-written, over-read and over-sexed. Now it's over here, but thankfully not being over-rated. 😛
