“Are you done?” Doc Benton asked the minute he entered.
Derek didn’t eat or drink until he had fixed the biomechanical implants of Mark’s brain. He checked upon Sophie whenever he could; her state was stable.
“Yeah, I did the best I could. These Rebel technologies are fiddly, but I cracked them. Is he ready?” Derek asked.
“He’s waiting in the Operation room 2.”
Derek himself carried the container with the delicate technology to the Operation room 2. He took a long glance at Sophie in the Operation room 1. Pale, lifeless, she appeared almost transparent. Derek shook the dark thoughts away. He watched Doc Benton entering the Operation room 2, and addressing Mark, who already laid on the operation table. The med bots had shaved his head for the operation.
“Are you fully aware what this means?” Doc asked. “You will lose your vision again. The biomechanics will become your only way of communicating with the world outside. You might experience pain, and confusion at first. If this operation is successful, you’ll go on a suicidal mission, and…”
“I know. Don’t waste time. Anouk might still be alive. I will find her,” Mark said, with his blue eyes staring at the metal ceiling sternly.
Doc Benton nodded. “Let’s begin.”
He injected a sedative into Mark’s arm, and pulled an oxygen mask onto Mark’s face.
“Let’s make you a Lightbreaker again.”

“Please, please, let me go! Please, no!” Anouk wheezed, as the Rebel Doctor injected a sedative into her arm, strapped to an operation table. She went limp within seconds. The doctor pulled an oxygen mask on her face.
“Go easy on the sedative,” said Supreme Leader Jerome, observing the operation through the glass wall. “I want my future inner organs undamaged by excessive use of chemicals.”
The doctor standing next to him, nodded. He went into the disinfection chamber to prepare for the operation.
“First, we’ll replace my dying kidney. Then the artificial liver for a real one. Then I’ll get a natural lung. Then I’ll get new skin to replace all this silicone over my flesh. The eye will be the crown jewel. Fresh blood will run through this body again. I’ll save the heart for the last,” the natural half of Jerome’s face smiled with insane glee. “I will feel human again.”
Jerome is one scary dude... and EVIL!
