Powerful stuff! I particularly like the ambiguity of the ending. A lot of things could happen after this point. Will Sam have a redemptive experience? Unwittingly follow Ricky's example? Deliberately follow it? Lots of possibilities.
I also like the mythic imagery, like the sea as a mother that devours her children.
A good start. Looking forward to the next part.
