Haaaaa! I would never mute you. I have to check in all the time because I enjoy folks who cause a ruckus. I enjoy eating popcorn and also can laugh at myself a bunch. I must say, in my mind, you are the bad girl conservative stacker that I enjoy reading, even though I am a huge lib and sip pumpkin spic lattes as much as I can. My parents and athletic coaches taught me at a young age that being able to have and hold conversations we might not enjoy is a skill. Keep up the great work!

p.s. At some point, if you wish, send me some address. I'll send a mug from the pottery for you no strings attached out of the next kiln load. Every writer working hard to cause a ruckus deserves a nice handmade mug.

Oh thank you Alford! 🩶That’s such a beautiful idea about the mug! I love mugs (I have a small collection actually, each mug has it’s story). But I’m afraid the delivery part might be complicated and expensive. I live in the EU, and you were from USA, right? The delivery might cost a lot, not to mention it’s a fragile item to send that far.😭

Noo I ship all over the world! It may just be a week or two in customs is all. The offer still stands. I'm no weirdo or crazy. I promise! I use pirate ship for the pots so I get a discount.

Oh, well, in that case I would be very happy to receive a mug made by you!☺️ I can DM you my address, if you want.

Sure, feel free. I will be making more shortly with the Valentine vase run. It might be a week or two, but I'll let you know before I send it out.

Let me begin with this clarification: I do not agree with many of your political views, but it does not bother me. I think it is okay not to have the same opinion, regardless of the topic. I do not like the thought, which many lefties developed, to hold the superiority of higher morals. We do not. And I think we all, regardless of our political views, should learn to debate with each other instead of trying to shut up people who do not share identical views. Unfortunately, people on the right have developed the same tendencies, but I do not count you as one of them.

Katherine,

I have only blocked the scammers. They are parasites of the human race—bottom feeders. I have seen some stackers troll for like opinions, and then when you follow the comment trail, it becomes a giant shit show. I may read the downward swirl of comments and wonder about our species. That said, there is a lot of good on Substack, and when I find a site that I enjoy, I comment (like here).

Oh sure respect my privacy but treat Dave special, now just for that I gotta mute you Kathrine ;).

Joking aside I get it, sometimes it'd be nice to explain yourself to them but sometimes you just can't.

I don’t typically mute or block (just that one creepy person who, while not mean was quite personal and had nothing to say about the work). Mute/block don’t bother me, either. Each to their own comfort level! I’m an old-school, hardcore Gen X’r. Capable of ignoring nearly anything with a bored shrug. I like to hear what folks have to say, even if I don’t agree. Fuel for the fiction! I must understand real people to build realistic characters and situations. I do understand, though, why mute/block is available and even necessary. A time and place for everything.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me. One of the people on the Thorny Thursday Tagstream blocked me. I found it odd, considering that I took part in her event, and she liked my work. Now, I can't tag her or even subscribe to her page.

I, on the other hand, haven't blocked anyone. It's not worth the time and hassle, and I love a good debate.

I've never blocked or muted anybody... there have been a few strange guys who tried to get me to discuss some mysterious thing in private mode as their first introduction, but I'm a happily married (for more then four decades) grandma, for goodness sake, and I'll become a real live pensioner by the end of the year! I don't know what they had in mind, but I'm too old to play silly games. I just didn't rise to the bait and they eventually went away - maybe they were some of those bots you mentioned (which reminds me, have you ever heard of bot flies? Google if you're curious, but be warned, their baby rearing practices are gross... might make for a decent horror story, though). Anyway, I like your attitude... ghosting does indeed suck!

The only people I've ever blocked were spammers and con artists - and most of them were already removed from the service before I did so (have not had any here yet but have had a few on other platforms). Oh, and the one person on Facebook who sent me a friend request ONLY to immediately follow up with a three (or more - blocked at three) Private Message long, profanity filled rant about how I was an evil, unAmerican monster with no understanding of the real world or the Constitution.

Takes a lot for me to mute someone, they have to be a total jerk

Yes, and they had to do something totally disgusting for me to block them. That’s why Imm so surprised that person just blocled me without a reason. I mean, we have even chatted in the DM’s and comments.

But not everybody is the same, I guess.

I will admit you make a great point. Personally, I just want to see fiction and poems everything else in general is just noise, one knows how much one gets noises like that everywhere else, but you are right. It will be like seeing static once in a while.

Let’s face it though, in modern adult social situations, it’s just another version of high school pettiness. We value the most shallow and superficial things rather than the stuff that should matter more, so we value beauty over character and we rightly suffer for it because we conflate things like beauty with character. They are not one and the same. They can be, but most often are not.

Keep being authentic - just because people have differing opinions doesn't mean respect can't abound. Please make sure, though, that you guard your mental health and don't let those who can't show respect hit too hard. P.S. I can't remember if I told you or not (lacking sleep from puppies is messing with my mind), but my copy of The Last Daughter of Wolves has arrived. Words on paper make such a difference to my enjoyment of reading! - What makes a man! Keep being you!

Thank you so much, V!🩶 You’re probably fed up with me asking but when are you publishing something as a physical book? And what will it be? You have lots to choose from, I think.☺️

LOL, no, I’m not sick of it. It's like your voice is sitting in the back of my mind going…. come on, get on with it! I think I’ll do a horror collection, then The Last Dragon, then Lord Der Arzte.

I've learned to never block anyone. What's the point? If I don't like a piece I just stop reading it. But I'll make a point to check that writer's next entry. Maybe I was hasty in my first judgment. We don't learn anything by only reading people we agree with. PS. I hope I'm not the Dave you referred to. But if I am I'll try to be more civil or smarter or something. 😁
